PAF Base Nur Khan, designated by ICAO code OPRN, is a Pakistani Air Force base located in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It served for decades as the primary international airport for the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area under the name Benazir Bhutto International Airport, handling millions of passengers annually. Following the opening of the new Islamabad International Airport (IATA: ISB, ICAO: OPIS) in May 2018, commercial airline operations were transferred away from OPRN. The facility now functions primarily as a Pakistan Air Force base, though it retains limited aviation activity. The airport was named after former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in Rawalpindi in 2007. Its historical significance as the gateway to Pakistan's capital region made it one of the country's most strategically important aviation facilities for several decades.
Terminals
The airport previously operated passenger terminal facilities that handled international and domestic traffic before commercial operations were relocated to the new Islamabad International Airport in 2018.
Getting to & from
The airport was accessible from central Rawalpindi and Islamabad via road, with taxis and public buses serving as the primary ground transport options.
