Bagram Airfield, designated IATA OAI and ICAO OAIX, is located approximately 60 kilometers north of Kabul in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. Originally constructed by the Soviet Union in the 1950s, it became the largest U.S. military installation in Afghanistan following the 2001 invasion, serving as a critical hub for coalition operations throughout the conflict. The airfield features two parallel runways and extensive military infrastructure built up over decades of use. Following the U.S. military withdrawal in July 2021, the base was handed over to Afghan National Security Forces and subsequently came under Taliban control after the fall of the Afghan government in August 2021. As of the Taliban's return to power, Bagram Airfield has seen limited and uncertain operational status. Its future role in Afghan aviation and any potential civilian use remains unclear under the current political environment.
