The airport handles a significant share of Cameroon's international passenger traffic, alongside Douala International Airport, which serves the country's economic capital. It is operated under the management of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC). Nsimalen has undergone expansion and modernisation efforts over the years to improve capacity and passenger facilities, with ongoing infrastructure development aimed at meeting growing air travel demand in the Central African region.
