Naval Air Station Pensacola, home to Forrest Sherman Field, is a United States Navy installation located along the Gulf Coast of northwest Florida. It is widely regarded as the 'Cradle of Naval Aviation,' having served as the primary training ground for U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard aviators for over a century. The airfield is named in honor of Admiral Forrest Sherman, Chief of Naval Operations from 1949 to 1951. The installation hosts the renowned Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron, which is based at NAS Pensacola when not on tour. The base is also home to the National Naval Aviation Museum, one of the largest air and space museums in the world. While the facility has an IATA code (NPA), it does not serve scheduled commercial airline service and operates primarily as a military installation.
