Normans Cay Airport is a small general aviation airstrip located on Normans Cay, a private island in the Exuma chain of the Bahamas. The airport serves primarily private aircraft, charter flights, and small recreational visitors accessing the island's limited resort facilities. Normans Cay gained notoriety in the late 1970s and early 1980s when Colombian drug trafficker Carlos Lehder of the Medellín Cartel took control of the island, using it as a key transshipment point for cocaine bound for the United States. Bahamian and U.S. authorities eventually forced Lehder out in 1983, and the island has since returned to quieter use as a remote getaway destination. The airstrip is basic in nature, with no commercial airline service and minimal infrastructure. Visitors typically arrive by private plane or boat, and the island's sparse population means the airport sees very limited traffic.
