Naval Air Facility Atsugi (NAF Atsugi) is a United States Navy installation located in Ayase and Yamato cities in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It sits alongside Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Atsugi Air Base, making it a shared military installation used by both American and Japanese armed forces. The facility serves as a major forward-deployed naval aviation base for the U.S. Navy in the Pacific region. It has historically hosted Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) and associated squadrons, though some operations have shifted to MCAS Iwakuni in recent years. The base does not handle commercial passenger traffic. NAF Atsugi has occasionally been a source of noise complaints from surrounding communities in the densely populated Kanagawa region. The base remains an important element of the U.S.-Japan Security Alliance and hosts various support and logistics functions.
