Miyakejima Airport serves Miyakejima, a volcanic island roughly 180 kilometers south of Tokyo in the Izu Islands chain, part of the Tokyo Metropolis. Following a major eruption of Mount Oyama in 2000, the entire island population was evacuated and the airport was closed for several years. Residents were allowed to return in 2005, and air services gradually resumed thereafter.
