The Space Florida Launch and Landing Facility (LLF), designated KTTS, is located at Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island near Titusville, Florida. Originally built as the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) by NASA, the 15,000-foot runway served as the primary landing site for the Space Shuttle orbiter throughout the program's history from 1976 to 2011. Following the retirement of the Space Shuttle program, NASA transferred operational control of the facility to Space Florida, the state's aerospace economic development agency, to support commercial spaceflight activities. The facility has since been used by companies such as SpaceX for returning Crew Dragon astronauts and by other aerospace operators conducting flight tests and cargo operations. The LLF is not a commercial passenger airport in the traditional sense; it functions primarily as an aerospace and spaceport facility. Its extraordinary runway length and infrastructure make it uniquely suited for supporting large aircraft, spacecraft recovery, and emerging commercial space transportation needs.
