Historic Florida air reserve base with dual military-civilian use.

Opened
1942
Location
Homestead, United States
Homestead Air Reserve Base (HST/KHST) is a United States Air Force Reserve installation located in Homestead, Florida, approximately 35 miles southwest of Miami. It serves as the home of the 482nd Fighter Wing, which operates the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The base was severely damaged by Hurricane Andrew in August 1992, one of the most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history, which virtually destroyed the installation. It was subsequently rebuilt and converted from an active-duty base to an Air Force Reserve installation in 1994. A portion of the airfield is shared with the Miami Executive Airport area, and the facility supports both military training operations and limited general aviation activities. The base plays a strategic role in air defense and drug interdiction operations in the southeastern United States and Caribbean region.
Getting to & from
