Houston's close-in airport serving Southwest Airlines and beyond.

Opened
1927
Location
Houston, United States
William P. Hobby Airport is a major commercial airport located approximately 7 miles southeast of downtown Houston, Texas. Originally opened in 1927, it is one of the oldest commercial airports in the United States and served as Houston's primary airport until Houston Intercontinental (now George Bush Intercontinental) opened in 1969. The airport was renamed in 1967 to honor William Pettus Hobby, a former Texas governor and aviation advocate. After a period of reduced activity following the opening of Intercontinental, Southwest Airlines established a significant presence at Hobby, revitalizing the facility. In 2015, an international terminal was added, allowing Southwest to offer international service from the airport. Hobby handles tens of millions of passengers annually and is operated by the Houston Airport System, which also manages George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Ellington Airport.
