Saratov's modern gateway replacing the city's older airport.

Opened
2019
Location
Saratov, Russia
Gagarin International Airport is a relatively new facility serving the city of Saratov in the Saratov Oblast of Russia. It was built to replace the outdated Saratov Tsentralny Airport, which had operated closer to the city center for decades. The airport is named in honor of Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet cosmonaut and first human in space, who was born in the Saratov region. The airport features a modern terminal designed to handle significantly higher passenger volumes than its predecessor. It is located roughly 30 kilometers northeast of Saratov city center, near the town of Engels. The facility was developed as part of broader Russian efforts to modernize regional aviation infrastructure. Since opening, the airport has served as the primary air gateway to Saratov, handling both domestic routes across Russia and limited international services. Operations were affected by broader geopolitical and aviation disruptions following 2022.
