Historic atoll airport serving southern Maldives' Addu region.

Opened
1942
Location
Gan, Maldives
Gan International Airport (IATA: GAN, ICAO: VRMG) is located on Gan Island in Addu Atoll, the southernmost atoll of the Maldives. It serves as the main gateway to the Addu City region and connects the far south of the country with the capital Malé and select international destinations. The airport was originally built as a Royal Air Force base by the British during World War II and later used extensively through the Cold War era, giving it one of the longest runways in the Maldives. After the British departed in 1976, the facility was converted to civilian use. Addu Atoll is known for its unique geography — it is one of the few naturally connected island chains in the Maldives — and Gan Airport plays a vital role in supporting tourism and local commerce in this remote southern region.
Terminals
The airport has a single passenger terminal handling both domestic and limited international flights.
Getting to & from
Ground transport from Gan Airport is straightforward, as Gan Island is connected by causeways to other islands of Addu City, making road travel to nearby resorts and the city center accessible.
Airlines here
Maldivian (Island Aviation Services) is the primary carrier operating scheduled domestic services from Gan, with periodic international charter and scheduled flights.
