Beja Airport, also known as Beja Air Base (BA11), is a joint civil-military aerodrome located in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal. It serves the city of Beja and was developed to attract low-cost and charter traffic to the region, supplementing busier Portuguese airports. The airport underwent significant infrastructure investment in the 2000s to enable commercial operations, with a modern passenger terminal constructed to handle civilian flights. Despite high hopes, sustained commercial air service has proven difficult to establish and maintain. The facility continues to operate as an active Portuguese Air Force base while periodically hosting civilian carriers, particularly for seasonal charter and low-cost routes to northern European destinations.
