Bern Airport (IATA: BRN, ICAO: LSZB), officially known as Bern Belp Airport or Flughafen Bern-Belp, is a regional civil airport located in Belpmoos, in the municipality of Belp, approximately 9 kilometres south of the Swiss capital Bern. It serves as a gateway for the greater Bern metropolitan area and the broader Mittelland region of Switzerland. The airport handles a modest volume of commercial, charter, and general aviation traffic. It has faced repeated challenges in attracting and retaining scheduled airline services due to competition from larger Swiss airports, particularly Zurich Airport and Geneva Airport. Several airlines have commenced and subsequently discontinued routes from Bern over the years. Bern Airport underwent significant infrastructure investments in the 2000s, including a new terminal building, to support ambitions for expanded commercial operations. Despite these efforts, passenger numbers remain relatively low compared to Switzerland's major airports, and general aviation continues to play an important role in the airport's overall traffic mix.
