Sprengisandur Airport (ICAO: BISP) is a small, remote airstrip located in the Sprengisandur highland desert of central Iceland. The area is one of the most uninhabited regions in Europe, characterized by volcanic plains, rivers, and lava fields stretching across the interior plateau. The airstrip serves primarily utilitarian purposes, supporting access to the remote highland region for search and rescue operations, scientific expeditions, and occasional private or charter flights. It is not a commercial passenger airport and has no scheduled airline service. Due to its remote location and the harsh Icelandic highland environment, operations at the airstrip are highly weather-dependent and limited in scope.
