Aeropuerto Nacional Juan de Ayolas is a small domestic airport located in Ayolas, a town in the Misiones Department of southern Paraguay. The airport serves the local population and personnel associated with the nearby Yacyretá hydroelectric dam, one of the largest hydroelectric projects in South America, operated jointly by Paraguay and Argentina. The facility handles limited scheduled and charter traffic, primarily connecting Ayolas with Asunción and other domestic destinations. Its infrastructure reflects the modest scale of the community it serves, with basic terminal facilities suited to regional operations. The airport is named Juan de Ayolas in honor of the Spanish conquistador who explored the Río de la Plata region in the 16th century, after whom the town itself is also named.
