Vostok Skiway is an unpaved ice runway located at Vostok Station, a Russian Antarctic research station situated deep in the interior of Antarctica at approximately 78°S latitude. The skiway serves as the primary air access point for the station, which is operated by the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of Russia. The facility is used exclusively for scientific and logistical support operations, primarily during the Antarctic summer season. Aircraft operating here must be equipped with skis to land on the compacted snow and ice surface. The extreme cold, high altitude (approximately 3,488 meters above sea level), and remoteness make operations here among the most challenging in the world. Vostok Station is famous for being one of the coldest places on Earth, with temperatures recorded as low as −89.2°C (−128.6°F). The skiway supports resupply missions and crew rotations for the research personnel working at the station.
