FlyLal, officially known as Lithuanian Airlines (Lietuvos Avialinijos), was the flag carrier of Lithuania and one of the oldest airlines in the Baltic states. Operating under the IATA code TE and ICAO code LIL, the airline served as the primary international carrier for Lithuania, connecting Vilnius to destinations across Europe and beyond. The airline operated from its main hub at Vilnius International Airport and at various points in its history flew routes to major European cities. FlyLal faced significant financial difficulties in the competitive European aviation market and ultimately ceased operations in January 2009, leaving passengers stranded and creditors unpaid. Following the collapse, attempts were made to restructure and revive the brand, but the airline never fully recovered. Its demise was attributed to rising fuel costs, strong low-cost carrier competition, and accumulated debt, marking a significant moment in Lithuanian aviation history.
