Conviasa (Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos) is a Venezuelan state-owned airline founded in 2004. It operates domestic routes within Venezuela as well as international services to destinations in the Caribbean, Latin America, and beyond. The airline was established by the Venezuelan government under President Hugo Chávez as part of broader efforts to expand state control over key industries. Conviasa has faced significant operational challenges over the years, including sanctions imposed by the United States Treasury Department in 2020, which complicated aircraft acquisitions and international operations. Despite these difficulties, Conviasa continues to serve as Venezuela's primary government-backed carrier, operating flights on routes that private airlines have reduced or eliminated due to the country's economic difficulties.
