The Fokker F28 Fellowship is a short-range twin-engine jet airliner developed by the Dutch manufacturer Fokker. It was designed as a jet-powered successor to the turboprop Fokker F27 Friendship, targeting regional and domestic routes that required jet performance but modest capacity. The aircraft entered service in 1969 and became popular with smaller national carriers and regional operators worldwide.
The F28 was produced in several variants, ranging from the original Mk 1000 to the stretched Mk 4000, with seating configurations typically between 65 and 85 passengers. It featured a T-tail design and was powered by Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage. Over 240 aircraft were built before production ended in 1987.
The F28 laid the groundwork for the later Fokker 100, which used a modernized and stretched fuselage derived from the Fellowship. Many F28s served in Africa, Latin America, and Asia with national carriers, and a number remained in service well into the 2000s with smaller regional operators.
Notable operators
Major operators included Garuda Indonesia, Nigerian Airways, Linjeflyg, Air Lingus, and Braathens SAFE, among numerous regional and national carriers.
