The Bombardier CRJ1000 is the largest member of the CRJ family, stretching the CRJ900 fuselage to accommodate up to 100 passengers. It was developed by Bombardier Aerospace as a direct response to airline demand for a larger regional jet capable of competing with the Embraer E190 on thinner routes.
The aircraft features General Electric CF34-8C5A1 turbofan engines and retains the same cross-section as other CRJ variants, which limits cabin width compared to newer regional jet designs. Despite this, it offers improved fuel efficiency and lower operating costs per seat compared to smaller CRJ models.
The CRJ1000 entered service in 2011 and found its primary market in Europe and Asia. Production of the CRJ series was wound down by Bombardier, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries acquired the maintenance, support, and refurbishment operations for the CRJ program in 2020.
Notable operators
Air Nostrum, Iberia Regional, Air France (HOP!), and Brussels Airlines have been among the primary operators of the CRJ1000.
