The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is a narrow-body, single-aisle airliner and the most popular variant of the 737 MAX family. It was developed as a fuel-efficient successor to the 737 Next Generation series, featuring CFM LEAP-1B engines and aerodynamic winglets known as Advanced Technology winglets. The type was grounded worldwide in March 2019 following two fatal crashes—Lion Air Flight 610 in October 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 in March 2019—both linked to a flawed Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS). The aircraft remained grounded for nearly 20 months before the FAA lifted its order in November 2020, with other regulators following. Following recertification, the 737 MAX 8 returned to commercial service with software fixes, pilot training requirements, and hardware changes mandated by aviation authorities. It remains in production and continues to be one of Boeing's primary commercial offerings.

The Boeing 737 MAX is a series of narrow-body aircraft developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of the Boeing 737. It succeeds the Boeing 737 Next Generation and incorporates more efficient CFM International LEAP engines, aerodynamic improvements such as split-tip winglets, and structural modifications. The program was announced in August 2011, the first flight took place in January 2016, and the aircraft was certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in March 2017. The first delivery, a MAX 8, was made to Malindo Air in May 2017.
